A little about Molly...

Since our blog is brand new, I thought I'd give a brief update of the Molly story.

We first began discussing adoption seriously in May of 2008. There was a lot to think about, foster parenting, domestic adoption, international. We became passionate with China after reading the story of the Steven Curtis Chapman family. They were definitely an inspiration to us. I was so excited I started immediately gathering information for China and found an agency and got as many papers together as I could. Then M came to me and said that he really felt we should switch agencies to America World Adoption. At first all I could think of was all the additional paperwork, but I quickly realized that his feelings were strong and most likely correct. We left our old agency on October 15, 2008 and started up with AWA on October 18th. By April, we had all our paperwork over to China (DTC) and had received notice that we were logged in (LID). A few days later, we received a referral of a little girl with a certain special need. After much prayer and discussion with Doctors we decided we could not adopt her, the needs were more than we could handle with the activity level of a family with 4 healthy children. It was very difficult to let her go, but we trusted God and heard only a few days later that she had been adopted by another family! On May 5th, we received a referral of Little Pan Jiaqi. We instantly fell in love with her, she too has a special need, but after discussions with Doctors, we feel like it will be very manageable. The next day we moved forward with the adoption paperwork for her and then the anxious waiting began. When will we get to meet her???

God has been clear and evident through our whole process, answering our questions and calming our anxious hearts. The most exciting God-thing for me was that Molly's paperwork began on October 16th and 17th...right in the middle of our switch to AWA. If we hadn't switched we would not have been matched with Molly. We feel very blessed.

Pan Jiaqi is her name given at the orphanage. She was abandoned at 9 months, with a wound/bump on her front right forehead (her special need). She was taken to the orphanage for a few months and then placed in a foster home in a small out-lying town in the mountain countryside where she has lived ever since. There are 600 orphans under the Kunming Orphanage's care, 500 are in homes in these "foster villages". It is said that they receive much love and attention in these homes.

With her agreement, we will be changing her name to Amelia Grace Jiaqi Newell and calling her Molly.

  1. What a beautiful story! We had a similar experience with our Izabella--her paperwork was being finalized by the orphanage director on the day we had our meeting with AWAA about the Waiting Children program. Our agency merged with AWAA just a few weeks prior which opened up the opportunity for us to apply for the the WC program. We were LID since July of 2007. We too believe it was God moving all those mountains!

Looking forward to meeting you and precious Molly--she looks like such a sweet thing. We'll see you in Beijing!
